Class Policies
Classroom Policies for Intensive Reading
Mrs. Moss
In order to assist you and others in the pursuit of a quality education, I have established some guidelines. These guidelines are designed to create a pleasant and safe environment for all students in my class. Your attitude towards school will play a large role in determining how well you do in school. If your primary purpose for coming to school is to learn and participate in classroom and extracurricular activities, you probably will never encounter serious disciplinary problems. You must remember that you are responsible for your own actions. If your actions are in violation of school guidelines, you will have to accept the consequences.
Every student has the right to a quality educational experience, and no student has the right to prevent a teacher from teaching or a student from learning. The following information describes the rules and expectations for student behavior. At any time you may be counseled by teachers and/or administrators; please accept their advice of valuable and understand that their intent is to help you. I sincerely hope that you will be one of those students who takes advantage of the programs provided to you and continue to be the best you can be.
Assignments:
-
Assignments given in class are to be completed when they are given unless
otherwise instructed.
- Late work
is accepted with a penalty of 10 points deducted per day, up to three days.
After the third day, work will no longer be accepted..
- It is
your responsibility to turn in work if you are absent. It is your responsibility
to obtain your makeup work within three days of an absence.
-
Assignments and tests scheduled prior to your absence are due the day you
return, no exceptions.
- If you
are caught cheating on any assignment at any time, you will receive a zero for
that assignment. Copying someone’s work or allowing someone to copy your work is
cheating.
Supplies: Without the proper supplies, students cannot participate in and complete daily class activities and assignments. This could have a negative impact on a student’s nine weeks grade. Failure to bring necessary supplies to class will result in a zero for the daily grade. Supplies needed include notebook and paper, pen or pencil, library book, and assignments.
Passes: It is important for students to learn to manage their time wisely. Students will be allowed 5 hall passes per nine weeks period. No passes will be given for locker visits or to other classrooms. The library is open before and after school for students who need to check out or turn in books.
Behavior:
-
Students should be seated in their assigned seats as soon as they enter
the classroom.
- Once in
the room, students should read the board for their bell work assignment and
begin working on that assignment individually and quietly
- Students
should raise their hands and receive permission before talking or leaving their
seats.
- Students
should remain seated until the teacher dismisses them unless they have received
permission to do otherwise.
- Students
should abide by the BARK rules:
o
Be Responsible.
This includes bringing all supplies to class, being prepared for class each day
when the bell rings, turning in assignments, etc.
o
Act with Self Control.
This includes monitoring your behavior, actions, etc.
o
Respect Everyone.
This includes the teacher, other students, and adults in the classroom (no offensive or insulting comments allowed).
o
Keep Safe. Please
do not horseplay in class.
- All rules
in the student handbook will be enforced.
Consequences:
-
Verbal warning
- Think
Sheet with parent signature required
- Parent
contact
- Referral
to office
For serious
offenses, I reserve the right to skip steps 1-3 and immediately refer a student
to the office for disciplinary action!
Grading:
All grades for the nine weeks will be weighted equally. Tests and other
major assignments will go in the gradebook twice. Semester
exams count 1/5 of the overall semester grade.
