2. Are you considering any national, state, district, or school wide
initiatives in the development of your IPDP?
Answer: School wide initiative:
School-wide Instructional Strategies
Description:
Marianna High School's Literacy Council
will continue to support teachers using the school wide instructional strategies such as think alouds,
anticipation guides, graphic organizers, and Cornell Notes. In addition,
strategies related to vocabulary will be added, such as "Word of the Week". Teachers across the
content areas will use these strategies in an effort to make the strategies
transparent and transportable to increase student comprehension.
3. School Improvement Component:
Reading
Description of the School Improvement Component:
50% or more of the lowest 25% of
students will make adequate progress as determined by 2009 FCAT Sunshine State
Standards reading component scores. This percentage will increase by 1% in 2010.
4. Goal:
Students in my class
will demonstrate learning gains equal to one year's worth of growth in reading.
Objective: I will increase my
understanding of Cornell Notes, graphic organizers, anticipation guides, think
alouds and professional learning communities.
Professional Development:
I plan to participate in the school-wide
professional learning communities to continue to receive support on the school
wide instructional strategies. I will also study the additional vocabulary
acquisition strategies.
How will I implement these activities with students?
I will use the school-wide instructional
strategies in my lessons.
What are the expected student outcomes?
At least 52% of the students in my class
will demonstrate learning gains equal to one year's worth of growth in reading.
You
need to add a goal related to your subject area. If you are a math
teacher, you could amend this next goal and use it.
Goal:
My
students will demonstrate proficiency in math as tested by FCAT.
Objective:
I will study the test specs for FCAT
Math as they relate to geometry. I will increase instructional time spent on the
topics that are heavily tested.
Professional Development: I will
work with the reading coach to retrieve test specs. She is an expert at decoding
test specs.
How will I implement these activities with students?
I will incorporate the
knowledge gained in my lessons.
What are the expected student outcomes?
At least 55% of the students in my class
will demonstrate learning gains equal to one year's worth of growth in math.
6. Do you have plans to participate in a professional learning community
or carry out an action research project during this academic year?
Answer: Yes.
I will participate in the Professional Learning Community facilitated by
the Literacy Council during my planning period one Wednesday a month. In
this PLC I will share best practices as they relate
to the needs of our students.
I will also participate in a book study related to improving the reading
abilities of the lowest 25% and closing the achievement gap between subgroups.
