The Jamestown Resource

In May of 1607, three ships sailed into Chesapeake Bay in Virginia.  Aboard these three ships were the men who would carve out the first successful English colony in America.  The men came searching for untold wealth in minerals and ore, but in many cases found instead war, disease, starvation and death.  The first hero of Jamestown will be John Smith, who will organize the men to survive the first few perilous months .

“When it shall please God to send you on the coast of Virginia, you shall do your best endeavour to find out a safe port in the entrance of some navigable river, making choice of such a one as runneth farthest into the land,”

The colony managed to hang on until John Rolfe and his cultivation of tobacco helped to make living in the colony profitable.  Use this web site to get to know Jamestown and the unique struggles encountered there by the men who would found our country.
