This course is required for all incoming freshmen and is designed to help students make the transition from middle school to high school by enabling them to develop strategies for: adjusting to high school, making informed choices, and developing skills needed for a successful future – either in college or in the workforce. The content will include the following:

 

·        Goal Setting and Decision Making Processes

·        Self Assessment

·        Sources of Career Information

·        Occupational Fields and Educational Requirements

·        Postsecondary Education and Training Opportunities

·        Writing, Listening, Viewing, and Speaking Skills for Applications & Interviews

·        Sources of Educational Financial Assistance

·        Career Planning

 

The “Choices” program endorsed by the Florida Department of Education will be utilized for career research. Two additional programs, “Starting High School” and “Character First” will also be included in the curriculum for this class.

 

Supply List

            Supplies to bring to class daily:

·        Pen & Pencil

·        1 inch White Binder

·        Notebook Paper (in binder)

·        One small pack of white copy paper to be turned in to the teacher during the first week of class. This paper will be kept by the teacher for your personal computer printouts in the computer lab.

 

Supplies to be kept in your locker to bring to class when needed for projects:

·        One pack of markers & colored pencils

·        One glue stick

·        One pair scissors
